Resistance

I have been thinking about writing. Perhaps a book – or at least putting my story down on paper. I have been thinking about it for years. Every now and then I will blog or start something from the beginning but none of it has stuck. Coming back from Africa I have had a lot to process, to readjust to, and I found writing helps. So I have been doing it more. And as I am unemployed – I have the time.

In my search for some tips and advice from the more experienced in this field I came across a book. “The war of art” by Steven Pressfield. Wow! A few pages in and I was hooked.

He talks about something that I experience every day – all the time. Something that keeps me from doing all sorts of things I’d like to do and being all kinds of things I’d like to be. Something I battle with and usually loose to everyday. RESISTANCE.

I won’t go into it any further as he puts it all together so brilliantly – go look it up for yourself. The first few pages are available to view on Amazon. I read them and had to buy the book!

What I will say is that today, due to his writing’s encouragement, I have had success! And I plan to continue facing up to resistance this coming week, day by day. To do those things I really want to do, to become the person I know I can be. It is never to late to change.

“…the truly free individual is free only to the extent of his own self-mastery. While those who will not govern themselves are condemned to find masters to govern over them.”   – excerpt from The War of Art

I choose true freedom. I choose to be disciplined. But more important still I choose to remember my great privilege – that I have a choice.
